SWEAR ON YOUR LIFE (2005-2011)
NYC based hard rock band Swear On Your Life was formed in the Spring of 2005 by MilitiA. out of a burning desire to chariot her very own live electric noise machine. Heavily influenced by Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Primus, Faith No More + PJ Harvey, SOYL is exhilarating, empowering, triumphant, daring and mean with a vengeance- while putting a bullet into every cliché associated with female-fronted bands.
The band recorded "Burn My Crosses" in 2007, it was one of the last albums mastered at the world famous Sony Studios NYC. The album was banned at several colleges and deemed "offensive" the week it was released.
Swear On Your Life shared the stage with Twisted Sister [Bent Brother], Made Out of Babies, Bella Morte and Voltaire. The band has been featured on Talking Metal (www.talkingmetal.com), Black Rock Coalition events (BRC Director, Earl Douglas named SOYL's album as one of the Top 10 Best of 2008), The Medusa Festival, "Take Back New York" benefits and The Gits Movie NYC Premiere Party - where the queen of riot grrrl KATHLEEN HANNA (Bikini Kill, Le Tigre) described MilitiA's voice as "some of the best live vocals I've ever heard.”
The band is in the book BLACK ROCK VOL. 1 by Earl Douglas Jr. alongside bands such as Fishbone and Living Colour. Their song "Heavyhead" is featured on the Black Rock Coalition album "Rock N Roll Reparations Vol 2" and they performed the song live to honor Melissa Etheridge's Lifetime Achievement Award at the 7th Annual OutMusic Awards in NYC on May 23, 2011. It was the band's last official performance.
